AUTUMN ARRIVES 2009
Autumn 2009
Weather has been kind the past 2 weeks things have dried up and we have managed to get on the land. I still feel we are a month behind and we are still in August so be patient in moving trees or shrubs the whole pruning and tidying doesn't have to be done in 1 month it can carry on until January. Sweet peas are still in bloom and bedding is still good .
Lawns.
Raise the mower blades to the winter heights and mow as needed even until the end of November. This is great for helping get leaves off the grass .
Spike,scarify and top-dress.
Clear fallen leaves regularly because their accumulation can create conditions in which diseases may establish themselves.
Sow new lawns
General maintenance.
Check tree stakes and ties.
Begin to clear leaves.
Continue to water as necessary.
Continue to clear weeds, and take pest control measures as necessary.
Before winter check electrical installations, the condition of fences, buildings, paths, drains and structures. Start planning for planting of hedges and trees.
Turn compost heap and mix first layer of leaves.
Plant daffodils and hyacinths to get an early display the tulips later in the month.
Look for late flowering plants that could lift the garden
Last of all plan for any construction over the winter and book in advance Ruddick Landscape Services to do your work before it is too late!
Work at the moment.
We are getting ready for the winter season by having our equipment serviced. The transit van has been tidyed up and is our first van with our new sign layout. So look out for her on the roads while you're in traffic.
We are busy with public footpath work which is an important part of our business and something we take great pride in working for local authorities.
Because of the weather, we have been busier than usual with drainage work. But being one of my favourite jobs I do not mind. I also enjoy proving wrong the sceptics who think that water divining is rubbish. I can do it.
Timber work has also been busy with new fences being put up and planters being made.
The tree nursery is getting ready for a new season and the soil is improving. So get your orders in for what you want or book a space for any of your plants to go in the holding bay if any construction work is planned.
Unfortunately, we had to take a large Beech tree down at Brampton Primary School. We had an audience of 300 children which was a bit nerve racking but I made each of them a disc out of the tree plus a bench for them to sit on. We will also be planting new trees in place of the Beech.
I WILL TRY TO ADD MORE THOUGHTS AS WE GET INTO WINTER WHICH WONT BE LONG NOW!!
Proud to be able to conserve these elegant trees
